We believe that it is important to invest in the countries in which our teams serve by building relationships with local governments, businesses, schools and people. We consult with our local contacts to ensure our service projects are authentic, wanted and good for the community. We serve with an attitude of coming alongside and partnering with the local people, while striving to be respectful of the culture and the day-to-day workings of the community. The Underdog Initiative currently offers service experiences primarily in Belize and the Dominican Republic, where we have strong partnerships and access to service projects which are meaningful to both the local community and the people who are serving.

Belize

Belize, Central America is located on the beautiful Caribbean Sea, nestled between Mexico to the north, Guatemala to the east and Honduras to the south. This country of just over 300 000 people is largely English speaking and is fairly easy to travel to from most Canadian cities. Belize is an eco-paradise, with a vast array of flora and wildlife. It is also home to one of the largest barrier reefs in the world. The people of Belize are rich in culture and heritage. They are some of the most welcoming people you will meet and serving them will make an impression on you that will last a lifetime!

The Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is located on the island of Hispaniola, which it shares with the nation of Haiti. This mountainous country includes the Caribbean's highest mountain peak, largest lake and lowest elevation. It's population of over 10 million people is a multiracial mix of European, African and Taino roots. Sports are extremely popular in the Dominican, which makes it an ideal place for North American teams to serve, and perhaps fit a few games in too. With strong ties to educational institutions in the DR, the Underdog Initiative can facilitate a variety of service projects and experiences for you!
